Serengeti Golf Course

The Serengeti Golf Course was unveiled in June 2009, by the iconic golfer and course designer, Jack Nicklaus. This Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course is the latest edition to an elite group of 300 courses worldwide that carries the Nicklaus name. As the first 27-hole signature course in Gauteng, Serengeti was also the proud recipient of the "BEST NEW GOLF COURSE FOR 2010" award, as announced by the Golf Digest panel of experts.

THE COURSE

The 27-hole Serengeti Golf Course comprises of an 18 hole course, named Masai Mara and a 9 hole course named Whistling Thorn. The Masai Mara  is also the name for a large game reserve in Kenya named after the Masai people (the traditional inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from a viewpoint - "Mara", which is Maa (Maasai language) for spotted: an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savannah and cloud shadows that mark the area. The Masai Mara Course therefore also has a rugged grassland and dune scape look and feel. Whistling Thorn - it's name referring to a swollen-thorn acacia native to East Africa features classic design elements and a plains like feel.

The Serengeti Golf Club is the first course in Gauteng to use cool season grasses meaning that the course remains lush green throughout the year. A variety of tee options combined with a careful consideration to daily set-up can provide the sternest of challenges for the most skilled players, yet the ideal environment for new golfers to learn the game. There are a number of unique features, such as the challenging par five, 8th hole with its island green.
